Your buyers have already read your competitor’s version of your blog post.

It’s time to publish what no one else can.

Original research reports for early-stage B2B SaaS and AI companies.

Echo North builds original research reports such as benchmark reports and industry surveys for early-stage B2B SaaS and AI companies. Clients don’t need proprietary data to start. Engagements run eight to ten weeks, at $32,000 for the full-length report or $44,000 for the complete marketing campaign. Each includes a findings page on your domain, structured so answer engines can quote it.

AI engines cite what they can attribute

Every company’s got access to the same models and the same sources, plus the ability to produce a thousand words in four seconds. The output reads like everything else in the category, because it was assembled from everything else in the category.

General advice gives an engine nothing to credit. It can either use your thinking and cite no one at all, or cite whoever it trusts more than you. Either way, your name won’t be in the answer your buyer is reading.

Original research is slower and more expensive than a blog post. It also produces something an engine can’t use without citing you.

Four ways to build original research reports

In order of how much data you begin with. (Methods three and four require no data of your own.)

1. Your platform data

Your product already sees something nobody outside your company can see. That view is the report.

2. A survey you field

The data you need doesn’t exist yet. Ask enough people and it will.

3. Interviews with practitioners

Fewer people, longer conversations. Named operators go on the record in your report, and their authority becomes part of yours.

4. Public data and original analysis

Your market has a problem nobody has named or sized. You do both using public figures, and afterward the industry argues in your terms.

Gate the report.
Publish the findings.

Most flagship research ends its life as a PDF. That format holds no structured data, so an engine reading your report can’t reliably tell who published it. Behind a form, the file often isn’t reachable at all.

We let the PDF keep doing what it’s good at, which is collecting email addresses. The findings go up as a web page on your own domain, which gives the answer engines something to lift and someone to credit.

What you get

Tier one: the asset.

Eight weeks, kickoff to launch · $32,000

Kickoff and research-design session. Research question and method selection. The method work itself: survey design and fielding, interview recruiting and moderation, or public-data modeling. Analysis. Detailed outline for your approval. Up to 10,000 words of report copy. Two rounds of editing. Source and figure verification on every number. Report layout, data visualization, and cover design through our design partner. Delivery as a finished PDF plus the source files. Advisory calls through launch day.

Includes a findings page on your domain, with Dataset and FAQPage markup so an answer engine can quote it and resolve your company as the source. Your team ships it from a spec, or I’ll publish it myself on Webflow, WordPress, or HubSpot.

Tier two: the campaign.

Ten weeks, kickoff to launch · $44,000

Everything in tier one, plus the campaign built from the findings. Six to ten blog posts, one for each finding the research supports, plus feature images. Ten to twelve social posts with graphics. Sales enablement can take the place of some of that scope if it’s what your team needs: objection handling, one-pagers, and benchmark slides CS can take into a QBR.

Design is included in both tiers. If your team handles layout in-house, the report is delivered as a structured doc for your designers to build from, and the engagement price drops.

Note: Some research requires paying respondents for their time, and reaching senior or specialized audiences can get expensive. When a project requires that, I’ll get you a quote before we start.

Who builds original research reports

I came to content marketing from eleven years in academia, eight of them teaching at UC Santa Cruz, with a PhD in British literature (Shakespeare) and an MFA in poetry. Before Echo North I was Head of Content at Gem.

Most research reports fail one of two ways: the finding surprises nobody, or the writing buries the finding. Academic training prevents the first. The MFA prevents the second.
