Original research is the only content a competitor can’t reproduce.

Echo North is Lauren Shufran, PhD, a fractional content strategist for early-stage B2B SaaS and AI companies. Every engagement begins with one question: What does your company have access to that the rest of your market doesn’t? The answer determines our method, and the result is a benchmark report from your platform data, an industry survey you commission, or a field guide drawn from interviews with named operators.

Every asset ships with a key findings page on your own domain that an answer engine can quote. The full marketing campaign is built from the same research. Companies don’t need data of their own to start.

Your raw material decides what we’ll build.

What you publish

Product usage data that’s only been earning its keep inside the company
The benchmark report your industry measures itself against
An argument your category keeps having without numbers
An industry survey that settles it
Practitioners your buyers already follow, who’ll go on the record for you
A field guide that lends you their authority
No data of your own, and a public record full of partial answers
A whitepaper that completes the picture and gives your market its conclusion

Who you’ll work with

I spent eleven years in academia, eight of them teaching at UC Santa Cruz, and came to content marketing with a PhD in British literature (Shakespeare) and an MFA in poetry. Before Echo North I was Head of Content at Gem. (Insert “To B2B or not to B2B” joke here.)

Plenty of people sell content, but fewer of them write. Grading undergraduate prose for a living teaches you to notice when a sentence isn’t doing good work. Most B2B content has precisely that problem. Yours won’t.

I’ve also published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, where research gets pulled apart by specialists with no reason to be kind. I take on a small group of clients each quarter, which keeps the work embedded.

In others’ words

“I’ve worked with Lauren at two different companies, and I’d work with them again in a heartbeat. Their work is sharp, strategic, and deeply aligned with what the business needs—especially for early-stage teams still shaping their voice, positioning, and product story. Just as importantly, Lauren has a knack for uncovering the stories hiding in your product and data—stories that drive real differentiation. The reports they built for both Rattle and Gem helped us lead in fast-moving spaces. I trust them with the content that matters most.”

Sara Kinsey

VP of Commercial Strategy

@ Rattle

“As an early-stage founder, I don’t have bandwidth for all the writing we need. I reached out to Lauren about building marketing content from the ground up. I knew I needed someone who could roll up their sleeves, learn an industry, interview customers, and develop strong content. Lauren’s been a great partner for our growing team.”

Zachary Kimball

Co-founder & CEO

@ Hardfin

“Lauren is the rare writer I trust with complex content needs. We worked together at Gem, and I’ve since hired them for multiple Checkr projects. What sets Lauren apart is that they push back to maintain the integrity of the asset. Our recent brief went through round after round of team review, and Lauren pushed on every comment that would’ve softened the asset’s positioning, then made the edits that addressed the underlying concern without giving anything up. The result is some of the strongest long-form work we’ve published. I’d work with them again on any project.”

“Lauren joined us to spearhead our first major content projects, and they were a dream to work with. They understood our modular campaign thesis from day one and turned it into a playbook our customers now run themselves. They’re creative and deeply knowledgeable, and their partnership made the whole process feel effortless. We will absolutely work with them again!”

Elaine Zelby

Co-founder & CRO

@ Tofu

“Earning the attention of enterprise buyers is unforgiving; one wrong frame and a serious buyer tunes out. Lauren gave us language that made our thesis sharper and more ownable. They translated a broad idea into distinct thought-leadership, with a clear POV and vocabulary, while holding every draft to our messaging guardrails. Every statistic was sourced and pressure-tested before it reached the page, and the writing reads like it came from inside the industry. I trust them with how we sound to the market.”

“Lauren was an instrumental part of our content success this year. Their keen ability to tell a story with data helped make our recent benchmarking report the best-performing asset in Gem’s history.”

Ani Sapru

Head of Product Marketing,
Content, & Website

@ Gem

“As our content needs grew, Lauren quickly helped us level up. They brought strong ideas to the table, worked with us to prioritize them, and took the lead on execution. Collaborating has been smooth and productive—Lauren is thoughtful, efficient, and brings a strategic mindset to the work.”

John Melas-Kyriazi

Co-founder & CEO

@ Standard Metrics

“What sets Lauren apart is their ability to distill real-world insight into content that speaks directly to our audience. Their drafts feel final, and their case studies are some of our strongest enablement tools. We’re lucky to have them on board as we move into whitepapers and other cornerstone content—we trust them to help shape what comes next.”

Darri Atlason

Head of Growth

@ Harmonic

“We had a bold idea and needed more than a writer. Lauren brought structure, clarity, and sharp thinking to a complex project. They helped us turn a loose narrative into real thought leadership and made sure it actually landed. The final asset didn’t just sound good—it also made people stop and think. That’s rare.”
